Born Again

A boots-on-the-ground transmedia story-telling of the Ecdysis/1000 Farms project, regeneration and the scientific method

Born Again is a down and dirty exploration and sensorial depiction of the effects of regenerative farming on soil, biodiversity and nutritional values via embedded observations and conversations with soil scientist, Dr. Jonathan Lundgren.

With his team of young scientists, Lundgren is conducting “full site inventories annually on at least 1,000 farms that are in various stages of regenerative adoption,” the 1000 Farms Initiative.

what is regeneration? of soil? of biodiversity? of a human life?

is regeneration possible? who are the people working with regeneration and why are they heading that direction?

Two weeks of embedded documentation with the Ecdysis team as they make their first visits to Northeastern farms and sample 4-5 farms daily (a week in New York State and a week in Vermont). A visit to the Ecdysis lab in South Dakota is also possible.

Footage will make use of immersive ideas and methods common to contemporary social media communications, such as green-screen interview overlay and ASMR audio capture (think cows chewing grass in stereo).

Presentation will be presented in a segmented / serialized format on TikTok and Instagram.

Particular attention will be paid to connect to the new TikTok "STEM" feed

It will also be edited into a horizontal format for screening, Youtube and Vimeo, ie. grass, cows + milk in the piece of earth we refer to as new york state

A much published researcher at the USDA until 2016, Ludgren’s studies revealed the connection between neonicotoids and beehive collapse. Resulting retaliation highlighted the synergy between (big ag) industry and governmental decision-making.

Ecdysis and the 1000 Farms Initiative is Dr. Lundgren’s next act, his regeneration.
